Principal Karl Vavrek’s own home is a reflection of his status as one of the few architects who has worked as a structural engineer.

space ! MATERIALITY

To open-up the main level, Karl supported the original wood beams which were overloaded with a shallow grid of exposed structural steel — supported on salvaged Douglas Fir posts and girders.

To balance this contemporary move Karl used more traditional farm-house styling in the kitchen in a hybrid he called ‘Farmhouse Contemporary’

Wherever possible, salvaged original elements were re-used. The greenest home — and the greenest products — are the one’s already built & made.
