Principal Karl Vavrek’s own home is a reflection of his status as one of the few architects who has worked as a structural engineer.
space ! MATERIALITY
To open-up the main level, Karl supported the original wood beams which were overloaded with a shallow grid of exposed structural steel — supported on salvaged Douglas Fir posts and girders.
To balance this contemporary move Karl used more traditional farm-house styling in the kitchen in a hybrid he called ‘Farmhouse Contemporary’
Wherever possible, salvaged original elements were re-used. The greenest home — and the greenest products — are the one’s already built & made.
